As a result, Van Gaal will likely select a strong starting XI with Bastian Schweinsteiger returning from a slight injury to take his place in midfield alongside fellow summer signing Morgan Schneiderlin.
Meanwhile, Antonio Valencia will return at right back after shrugging off an injury of his own, although United fans remain cautious as to whether or not Matteo Darmian will get the opportunities that he arguably deserves.
Transfer speculation continues to surround Old Trafford with David De Gea’s future all but sealed for another season at least. However, it remains to be seen whether or not a central defender and Pedro arrive before the end of the window.
United get the new Premier League campaign underway in just over a week’s time when they take on Tottenham in the early kick off, so things are starting to get more serious for Van Gaal as he puts together his preferred line-up.
Meanwhile, PSG are waiting on their own transfer dealings with Angel Di Maria reportedly closing in on a switch to the French capital.
While he won’t feature on Thursday, boss Laurent Blanc will put out his strongest squad with the French Super Cup clash against Lyon ahead on Saturday.
Thiago Silva, Edinson Cavani and Salvatore Sirigu have all been tipped to start, and so United can expect a thorough examination of their progress so far this summer.
