Reports in the Daily Mail explain United will accelerate contract talks with David de Gea following the acquisition of Valdes.
The Spaniard has 18 months left on his current deal, and has been in excellent form so far this season.
Valdes has been battling back to fitness after a knee injury, and on Wednesday agreed an 18-month deal, but United see the former Barcelona man as competition for De Gea, rather than a direct replacement.
