Manchester United will attempt to persuade David de Gea to remain at Old Trafford after his move to Real Madrid dramatically collapsed on deadline day, according to reports.
De Gea looked set to make a move to the Bernabeu after the two clubs reportedly agreed a £29m move, however, the required paperwork to finalise the deal was filed a minute past the European transfer deadline on Monday night.
According to The Mirror, sources close to the player believe the 24-year-old will be offered a new deal in October.
The report suggests United’s contract offer will beat the one tabled by Real Madrid.
De Gea was understood to be have been offered a £200k-a-week deal by the Red Devils last season, however, the Spaniard turned down the deal as he eyed a move to Real Madrid.
The Mirror claims United do not expect De Gea to sign a new deal to remain at the club, but they feel they now have nothing to lose.
De Gea can sign a pre-contract with Real Madrid in January as he will be entering the final six months of his deal with United.
