Manchester United will not sell wantaway goalkeeper David de Gea to Real Madrid in January, according to reports.
De Gea looked set to complete a dream move to the Bernabeu on deadline day, but required paperwork to finalise the deal is understood to have been filed a minute past the conclusion of European transfer window.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United will now be doing all they can to keep hold of the 24-year-old despite it being reported the former Atletico Madrid man is “distraught” over the failed deal.
United are expected to hand De Gea a new contract, however, it is understood the Premier League club is not expecting the 24-year-old to remain at the club beyond this season.
De Gea’s contract with the Red Devils expires at the end of the season and it seems Louis van Gaal is prepared to allow the Spaniard to leave on a free transfer rather than sell him in January.
