Manchester United will likely miss striker Wayne Rooney for its Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday.
19-year-old Anthony Martial will likely make his starting debut for Man United, according to the Daily Mirror.
Manager Louis van Gaal refused to confirm that Martial will start, though.
“You will have to wait and see how the players recover. That is the most important thing,” van Gaal said.
Martial made his Man United debut on Saturday, and he sealed the game shut with the Red Devils’ third goal against Liverpool.
The Red Devils bought the French international from Monaco for £36m on deadline day in a move that was questioned by experts and fans alike.
However, Martial finds himself in position to be featured in the Red Devils’ starting XI sooner than expected.
Man United will face PSV Eindhoven in their opening Champions League match on Tuesday before they resume the Premier League season on Saturday against Southampton.
Rooney is expected to return in the clash against the Saints, but Martial’s emergence may be just what he needs to overcome his sluggish start to the season.
