Manchester United to pay Robin van Persie £5m to quit Old Trafford
The former Aston Villa and Watford man turned in a man of the match performance as the Red Devils humbled Manchester City at Old Trafford, beating them 4-2 in a game his side went 1-0 down in.
The paper now reports that Young will be offered a hefty new contract, lasting for three years, after his return to form under Dutchman Louis van Gaal.
In July the winger will turn 30, though the contract he is to be offered will see him stay at Old Trafford until he turns 33, Young will be offered a slight pay cut from his current £120,000 per week deal with potential to make up the shortfall in perofmrance related incentives.
Under Van Gaal, Young looks an entirely different prospect to last season under David Moyes and he has been vocal in his support for his manager’s advice.
“I’ve just listened to what the manager has said,” said the winger.
Young continued, “He’s wanted to play me and I’ve wanted to go out there and repay him.
“I was brought in the team to do a job and everyone was magnificent today. Obviously it was a derby so we are delighted to get the win.”
