United were fantastic against Newcastle on Boxing day, with one of their best performances of the season yielding a 3-1 win against Alan Pardew’s side.
Van Gaal was pleased with the display, and with Wayne Rooney in particular; the club captain involved in all three of his side’s goals.
He is not as pleased with having less than 48 hours to prepare for the trip to White Hart Lane on Sunday, where United will be looking to extend their eight game unbeaten streak.
“With FIFA and UEFA, it’s forbidden to play within 48 hours. In England, it’s okay,” he said.
“I cannot prepare my team like I have to prepare. We have unit meetings, and team meetings, we have training 11 against 11, and assimilating opponents. We cannot do that now.”
Having taken over this past summer, the former Barcelona boss has done wonders for the Red Devils this season. Despite a shaky start to the new campaign, United currently find themselves third in the Premier League. Chelsea and Manchester City look a cut above everyone else this year, but van Gaal may no longer see a title challenge as a pipe dream.
