The Dutch forward revealed that Dick Advocaat convinced him to move to the Scottish club, and that a £3m deal was put in place when he was still at Feyenoord.
Rangers were unable to raise the funds they needed however, and the deal eventually fell through.
“I was still playing for Feyenoord and I wanted to go there [Rangers]. I spoke to Dick and he was interested,” van Persie said.
“I was ready to go but they first needed to sell one player before they could buy me.”
He eventually made the switch to Arsenal two years later, where he went on to become a world class striker.
The Dutch international then made a £24m move to Manchester United in 2012, helping the club to their 20th and his first Premier League trophy.
