Current United shot-stopper David de Gea has one year remaining on his contract and has been heavily linked with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.
De Gea has yet to commit to a new deal at Old Trafford and Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal risks losing the 24-year-old on a free transfer at the end of next season.
Despite Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris being number one on van Gaal’s wishlist, The Mirror reports that the Dutchman could make a play for Begovic in a cut-price deal.
According to the report, Begovic could be made available for £8m instead of the £30m+ fee required to tempt Lloris away from Spurs.
Daily Express reported that United had increased its offer by £50,000 to an incredible £200,000-a-week with van Gaal desperate to keep his star gloveman at the club.
If de Gea is to leave, however, it seems Begovic may jostle with Victor Valdes for the no.1 spot at Old Trafford.
