Champions feel left back is an area that needs strengthening.
Manchester United will attempt to build on their recent Premier League title triumph by spending heavily on new recruits at the end of the season, says the Daily Mirror.
Despite having just won a record 20th top-flight title, and 13th Premier League crown, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is determined for the club not to stand still in the upcoming transfer window, which opens on June 1.
And the Scot’s number one priority is believed to be finding a long-term replacement for ageing left-back and some-time captain Patrice Evra, with the France international now 31.
Everton full-back Leighton Baines is top of Ferguson’s short list, with the England international having just entered the final two years of his current deal at Goodison Park.
The 28-year-old has been a model of consistency since joining the Merseyside outfit from Wigan Athletic for just £5 million in the summer of 2007, however, it is expected that the defender will cost United upwards of £18 million were he to sign for the champions this summer.
