Bale in believed to be unhappy at Real Madrid and a move back to the Premier League beckons for the former Tottenham star.
According to The Mirror, United are preparing to off-load British record-signing Angel di Maria and van Persie to cut £500k of the club’s wage bill.
Bale reportedly remains United’s top transfer target for the summer, and it’s believed a whopping fee of around £80m would be enough for the La Liga giants to consider selling the Welsh international.
Daily Express journalist John Richardson told MUFCTV on Wednesday that Bale’s proposed move to Old Trafford was on the cusp of being completed.
“I think it’s almost a done deal to be honest,” Richardson is quoted as saying by Metro.
“I know somebody very close to Gareth Bale and the public are not hearing the real thing.
“He’s very unhappy there and he’s unhappy with his treatment.”
The 25-year-old was wasteful in front of goal during Real Madrid’s second-leg semi-final clash against Juventus on Wednesday and the notoriously demanding fans of the Los Merengues were audibly unhappy with Bale’s performance.
Despite the amount of criticism he has faced, Bale has hit the back of the net 17 times and made 10 assists in all competitions this season.
