De Gea has been heavily linked with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid and has not put pen-to-paper on a new deal at Old Trafford despite having just 12 months to run on his contract.
According to The Mirror, United boss Louis van Gaal is preparing a bid to land the £25m-rated 26-year-old in the event De Gea decides to head back to Spain.
Cillessen played every match at the 2014 World Cup under Louis van Gaal as the Netherlands impressed with a third-placed finish.
It is understood Van Gaal is keen to link up with Cillessen yet again, but only as a second option.
United are desperate to hold onto De Gea and The Sun reports that the Red Devils are set to offer the 24-year-old a staggering £250k-per-week deal in order to try and keep the shot-stopper at Old Trafford.
