De Gea, who was quoted by the Daily Star, said: “I’m perhaps in some of the best form of my career at Manchester United. I think this is the best period of my career. I am playing the best football that I’ve ever played.
“I’m just trying to improve with every training session and every game that goes by, giving 100 per cent and concentrating to the maximum. That’s the way I want to continue.”
Some sources have suggested that De Gea and Van Gaal have not spoken in months, with that being the major reason for their disagreement over a contract extension for the stopper, who has otherwise been in fine form so far this term.
However, the 24-year-old has now denied those rumours, saying: “Everything that has been written in the press about us not getting on is a lie. We both want the best for the club and the team, and the stories are complete lies.”
