Montenegrin international also pays tribute to Fiorentina.
Manchester City bound Stevan Jovetic has expressed his delight of sealing a move to the Premier League, but also thanked old club Fiorentina.
The Viola announced on Twitter late on Thursday evening that an agreement was in place with City over the transfer of the 23-year-old, and it is likely that the deal will become official in the coming days.
It is understood that the move is worth around £23.3m plus add-ons, giving his old club additional funds to improve the squad further.
Jovetic revealed his sadness in leaving Florence behind, but thanked the Fiorentina fans for their support during his time at the club and admitted he is excited about the new adventure he is set to embark on.
“I’m leaving a stupendous team. I’ll always have a place in my heart for Fiorentina and I’ll always support them, naturally. Winning the Scudetto? I hope so,” he told Firenzeviola.it as reported by Goal.com.
“Florence will always be in my heart; it’s not as if I just spent a day here in the city and that’s why I’ll miss it so much. It’s a beautiful place and I got on well with everyone, especially the people here,” he added.
“Now the fans are a bit cheesed off with me and that’s only right, but I never had a bad word to say about them, or about Fiorentina. That’ll be the day! But please try and understand me. I’m still young and I did all I could wearing this jersey, but now I need a change. Is that so wrong?”
However, Jovetic was keen not to dwell on the past too much and spoke of his desire to win silverware at the Etihad Stadium in the forthcoming years.
Having established himself as one of the most promising forwards in Europe during his stint in Serie A, he will be keen to defy the critics and take his game to the next level under Manuel Pellegrini.
The Montenegrin international also revealed his excitement at being reunited with former team-mate Matija Nastasic, having spent time together in Florence, they will look to become an integral part of City’s future.
“I’m thrilled about the move to City, believe you me. There’s no point in saying anything more.
“City are a great club and they play in the Premier League. I really want to win something. As well as that, I’ll link up with my good friend Matija Nastasic,” he added.
