Brazilian international expected to finalise deal in coming days.
Manchester City full-back Maicon arrived in Rome on Monday morning, and will now undergo a medical before sealing a deal to Roma according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Brazilian star was greeted by around thirty or so Giallorossi supporters at the Fiumicino airport, before continuing his journey to meet club officials to undergo a medical.
The 31-year-old brings an end to a fairly unhappy spell in the Premier League with Manchester City, after former boss Roberto Mancini opted for a reunion last season.
The former Inter ace failed to find regular football at the Etihad, and having lost his starting place in the national team to Dani Alves, Maicon is keen to force his way back into Luiz Felipe Scolari’s thinking ahead of the World Cup next summer.
It is understood that Roma agreed on terms with City on Sunday evening, and Maicon will now undergo the medical examinations before putting pen to paper and joining up with his new team-mates.
The veteran spent six years with Inter during the club’s most successful period in recent history, helping Jose Mourinho to a treble success back in 2010.
Roma boss Rudi Garcia will be hoping he can help Maicon recapture that kind of form having been given a new opportunity, and it is expected that the club will continue to bolster the squad ahead of the new campaign.
PSV and Dutch international midfielder Kevin Strootman is believed to be close to finalising a deal with the capital club, and despite unrest greeting the players at pre-season training last week, it is hoped that the Giallorossi can improve on a disappointing season last year.
