Cavani could make Etihad Stadium switch with Napoli keen on part-exchange.
Manchester City have been boosted in their pursuit of Napoli striker Edinson Cavani by the news that the Serie A club are willing to accept Edin Dzeko in part exchange for the Uruaguayan.
The Premier League giants are locked in a fierce battle with Real Madrid for the signature of Cavani, who has a £53m release clause, reports the Daily Mirror.
But Napoli are reportedly willing to accept Dzeko in any deal for the Serie A top scorer, who has netted 30 goals in 37 appearances this season.
But Dzeko, who arrived at Eastlands in a £27m deal from Wolfsburg in summer 2011, is also wanted by Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund, who are likely to embark on a major rebuilding programme this summer after losing Mario Goetze to Bayern Munich in a £31.1m deal.
City boss Roberto Mancini must now hope that Dzeko rejects the chance to return to the Bundesliga in favour of joining the Italian giants.
The Bosnian striker has scored 13 goals this season but has largely been used as a sub by Mancini.
Cavani, meanwhile, has a deal to 2017 with Napoli but has indicated a willingness to consider a move away from Naples at the end of this season.
