In the wake of Manchester City’s humiliating 4-2 loss in the derby to Manchester United, the Man City fans want blood (figuratively most likely…) almost as badly as another decent win with only six more matches of the 2014-15 Premier League season. The man who will undoubtedly be the focal point of that rage for at least the next few weeks (barring an immediate change) will be Manuel Pellegrini, the very same man who brought Manchester City just their 2nd Premier League Championship ever less than a year ago.
But as with most sports fans, the Manchester City faithful don’t have the time or the patience for Pellegrini’s near-criminal misuse of the talent on his squad. And among the many problems Pellegrini has had during the 2014-15 season are several missed opportunities, all of which could doom his tenure as manager of the soon-to-be former Premier League Champions.
Here are the five matches that have effectively doomed Manuel Pellegrini’s tenure as Man City manager:
1. Stoke City Shocker in Week 3, August 30th, 2014 – In Manchester City’s only shutout in the first five months of the 2014-15 season, Manchester City was upset extremely early in the season in just their second home game of the season. Mame Diouf raced a whopping 60 yards down the pitch at 57′ to score the only goal of the game as Manchester City was humiliated at home.
