Southampton’s Shaw is becoming one of the most coveted players in the Premier League.
Manchester City have joined Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign highly rated Southampton youngster Luke Shaw, reports the Guardian.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen to improve the Citizens’ defence in the summer and views left-back as an area that needs work.
Neither Gael Clichy or Aleksandar Kolarov have done enough to impress the Chilean and with Shaw being touted as one of the hottest prospects in the Premier League, Pellegrini has become interested.
The current reigning champions were the first to look into the prospect of signing the 18-year-old, as the full-back impressed last season after breaking into the Saints first team.
David Moyes need to find a long-term successor for stalwart Patrice Evra, with the Frenchman expected to leave Old Trafford when his current contract expires in the summer.
Moyes has tried and failed to bring Leighton Baines to the club from Everton and now sees Shaw as the ideal candidate, especially as the defender is still so young.
However, the England under-21 international is a self-confessed Blues fan and whilst the west London club rejected the starlet as a younger player, heading to Stamford Bridge could be too good to turn down.
Jose Mourinho has a similar problem to Moyes as veteran left-back Ashley Cole is likely to leave the club in the summer and the 51-year-old has been playing usual right-back Cesar Azpilicueta on the left as a result.
It looks set to be an interesting battle between these three top sides to see who can finally tempt Shaw to join them.
