Etihad Stadium outfit hope to entice Chelsea star away from Stamford Bridge on free transfer.
Premier League champions in waiting Manchester City have joined the race to sign Chelsea outcast Ashley Cole, reports the Daily Mirror.
There are plenty of high profile suitors for the 33-year old soon to be free-agent, who has only been offered a fresh deal on reduced terms at Stamford Bridge, but Manchester City’s financial resources could enable them to lead the chase for Cole. City may be willing to match Cole’s wages as he would come on a free transfer to the Etihad and also boost the English contingent in their squad.
City may also lose their Serbian left-back Aleksandar Kolarov this summer, and will feel that the vastly experienced Cole could be the ideal foil for their French left-back and Cole’s former Arsenal teammate Gael Clichy.
Cole has also attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid this season, and has a big decision see what he decides to do with his future this summer.
