Rami is on the radar of the Citizens once again.
Having been out-priced for Atletico Madrid centre-back Martin Demichelis, Manchester City are set to reignite their interest in Valencia defender Adil Rami, according to the Daily Star.
City have been keeping tabs on the Frenchman all summer, but new manager Manuel Pellegrini pinpointed a reunion with Demichelis as the first choice.
The Argentine played under Pellegrini at Malaga and only joined Atleti two months ago on a free transfer, but the club from the Spanish capital have stated the Citizens must pay £5m now if they want the 32-year-old.
With the 2012 Premier League champions unwilling to meet that price, the club have been forced to look elsewhere as a defensive cover becomes more desperate due to the injury to Vincent Kompany.
Man City reject Arsenal’s approaches for Micah Richards.
The captain is out for at least a month through with the issue and with offers for Real Madrid’s Pepe having also been rejected, Pellegrini now wants Rami instead.
The 27-year-old has been with Los Che for two years following a £5.2m move from Lille and has been ever present for the side since, playing 91 matches in all competitions.
Rami has also emerged as a regular for the France national team and to date has earned 26 caps for the nation.
City’s defensive fragility was spectacularly exposed at the weekend when Premier League new boys Cardiff City recorded a shock 3-2 victory over Pellegrini’s men.
Without Kompany the back four looked vulnerable from set pieces and with talented youngster Mateja Nastasic also out, midfielder Javi Garcia was forced to act as a centre-back.
