This comes on the back of reports that have suggested James Milner could be on his way out of the Etihad, with Arsenal among a host of others interested in the versatile midfielder.
The Guardian believes that as the Premier League champions will be left light in the homegrown department with Milner’s departure, they will look to bring the Southampton pair to replace him as they head into the second half of a long season.
The Saints saw a number of star names depart this summer just gone, including Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, and Dejan Lovren, so they may not be keen to lose any more.
And with the surprisingly bright start the south-coast team have made to the season, they may not be in a position where they need to sell.
