Pellegrini knows the player well from their time working together in Spain.
Manchester City are interested in signing Malaga goalkeeper Willy Caballero this summer as back-up to first-choice shot-stopper Joe Hart, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The experienced Argentina keeper has made 79 appearances for Malaga since arriving in southern Spain two seasons ago, during which time the 31-year-old has proved himself to be one of the most impressive custodians currently plying their trade on the Continent.
In particular, Caballero’s displays between the sticks last season for Malaga went a long way towards helping Manuel Pellegrini’s side reach the knockout phase of the Uefa Champions League for the very first time in the Liga outfit’s history.
And with the Chilean having now left Malaga to coach City, it is understood that the 59-year-old wants the Argentinian to be his No 2, with previous reserve keeper Costel Pantilimon expected to leave Eastlands for a new club when the summer transfer window reopens on July 1.
