Porto midfielder Fernando is ready to finalise a move to City, according to the player’s agent.
Manchester City are set to tie up their first signing of the summer, with Sky Sports reporting that the agent of FC Porto midfielder Fernando has confirmed that his client is set to tie finalise a move to the City of Manchester Stadium.
The 26 year-old holding midfielder has been at the top of Manuel Pellegrini’s wishlist this summer as the Chilean manager, dubbed ‘The Engineer’, looks to construct a squad capable of retaining their Premier League title whilst simultaneously mounting an assault on the Champions League.
Born in Brazil, Fernando joined Porto at a young age directly from the Brazilian lower leagues, and has become the latest in a long line of South American players to use the Portuguese league as a first step on the ladder to the European big time.
Fernando will have plenty of competition when it comes to getting into the City team, with Fernandinho and Yaya Toure having established themselves as one of the Premier League’s most formidable pairings over the last 12 months.
With some tough encounters in Europe promised, however, Pellegerini may choose to operate with a more defensive system than his preferred 4-4-2, with Fernando allowing him to easily switch to a five-man midfield.
