Sterling is eager to leave Liverpool, but the Reds will not be giving him up easily. £40m was the final offer made by Manchester City, and they are not willing to raise their offer.
The Citizens now have their sights set on three players since having their Sterling bid turned down.
ESPN FC sources indicate that these players are Patrick Roberts, Fabian Delph and Paul Pogba.
Roberts is 18 years old and just began his senior career at Fulham.
Delph is expected to leave Aston Villa despite signing a new contract that will last for four-and-a-half seasons.
The midfielder made 27 starts for Aston Villa, who managed to barely escape relegation from the Premier League after a 17th-place finish.
Pogba played a key role for Juventus in their Serie A championship run and trip to the Champions League Final, which they lost to powerhouse Barcelona.
The 22-year-old midfielder scored eight goals in Serie A matches while adding another one in the Champions League season.
