Manchester City and England fullback Micah Richards is not for sale…
Arsenal have been dealt a blow to their hopes of snapping up Manchester City and England fullback Micah Richards – after the Sky Blues told them he is not for sale, reports Manchester Evening News.
Due to multiple injury problems, Richards has not played for City yet this season, and not won an England cap since 2012, and it was rumoured that new boss Manuel Pellegrini saw him as surplus to requirements.
However, due to a series of injuries to defenders, the Chilean boss has had a change of heart.
Richards can also play in central defence, and with the current squad depletion in the area at the Etihad – City want to hold on to their man.
City are currently weak in defence, following injuries to first choice centre-back pairing Vincent Kompany and Matija Nastasic. During the Premier League title hopeful’s 3-2 defeat away at newly promoted Cardiff City at the weekend, Pellegrini was forced to start midfielder Javi Garcia alongside Joleon Lescott, and paid the price.
Arsenal are keen on strengthening their defence after Lorient Koscielny was suspended on the opening day of the season. Bacary Sagna started at centre-back in the win over Fulham, and Arsene Wenger is desperate to bring in a high quality defender before the end of the month.
