City heap more misery on Moyes…
In very first minute of this game, United virtually ended their chances this evening against Manchester City…
Edin Dzeko scored with City’s third chance of the game, in the very first minute of the match.
It looked on paper like United would field Carrick, Fellaini and Cleverley in central midfield, to combat the powerful duo of Yaya Toure and Fernandinho – but this wasn’t actually how they shaped.
It would have been sensible, but in actual fact, Cleverley was pushed unnaturally out to the right, meaning Juan Mata could play in his favoured no.10 role. This meant Carrick and Fellaini were fielded directly against Toure and Fernandinho, who dominated the United pair because of their increased combativeness. They also had a far more effective selection of attacking midfielders ahead of them to link up with: Silva, Navas and Nasri, compared to Welbeck, Cleverley and Mata.
David SIlva was sublime, and made telling, cutting passes throughout the entire match. The man charged with doing the same for United, Mata, did not enjoy anywhere near as good an evening as his international compatriot.
Kompany was colossus at the back for City, while Rio Ferdinand looked a man completely shot of pace, and composure in possession.
While Wayne Rooney toiled up top, his opposite number Edin Dzeko was clinical – putting the game beyond doubt with a neat finish before Yaya Toure bagged his 17th of the season late on.
Here’s how some of the country’s top football pundits and journalists reacted to United’s awful performance this evening:
Some good news for Manchester United fans: Bayern Munich appear to be faltering, they only won 3-1 this evening.

Two big clubs with 1 big decision to make. Which of them gets to Mancini first? He’s the answer at both Utd and Arsenal

Now “Moyesy Is The Chosen One” from City fans. Rubbing it in severely.

Best United performance: Paul Scholes.

For this display to come on back of 2 very positive wins shows there’s deep psychological issues at Utd. These lads are totally wrecked …
