Manchester United and Arsenal may not have competition from Real Madrid in race to sign world class international midfielder from Borussia Dortmund.
Manchester United and Arsenal are each interested in signing Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund, according to the Daily Star, and the Germany international has offered each club a major boost.
The midfielder was widely reported to have agreed a deal with Real Madrid to move to Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, but has since denied that there is any arrangement in place.
“There is no agreement between Gundogan and Real Madrid,” said the player’s father.
The 23 year-old Gundogan is currently out of action with a spinal injury, and his father decreed that to be the reason he had broken off contract talks with Borussia Dortmund.
“We only stopped contract negotiations with Dortmund because we do not want to disturb him during his injury,” said Gundogan senior.
“Obviously, it is possible that he will extend his contract.”
Obviously, it is also possible that he will move to the Barclays Premier League.
David Moyes and Arsene Wenger will certainly be watching the situation carefully.
