Ajax have admitted that a large bid for their star player Christian Eriksen could result in the Denmark international leaving the club.
Eriksen has resisted signing a new deal with the Dutch giants, and looks ever more likely to move to pastures new.
“Eriksen is only 20, but already seems older than he is,” said Ajax manager Frank de Boer.
“He has so much talent and of course it is difficult to keep him.
“I think he is a player for Madrid or Barcelona but I think one more year at Ajax wouldn’t hurt him. Although that’s difficult – I can’t predict next year he will be at us.”
“It would be great to have him in the team but if a team comes along and puts a big bag of money it would be impossible for Ajax to keep him,” he said.
He is a player of considerable potential, and will interest any major club in Europe. Barcelona and Real Madrid are clearly considering the 20 year-old Dane, while in England it is thought that Liverpool and Manchester United are most keen.
Liverpool are short of options in their forward line at present.
Luis Suarez is of course one of the first names on the team sheet, while Raheem Sterling has been hugely impressive all season.
However, the new England international will require careful management at the age of just 17, and additional options are required.
On the other flank, Suso is far from assured of his place, while the currently injured Fabio Borini fails to convince. A more established talent than either in Christian Eriksen could be the push Liverpool need to reach the next level.
As for Manchester United, Eriksen could be Nani’s replacement.
The Portuguese winger is in a transfer dispute of his own at Old Trafford, and Eriksen could be a wonderful like-for-like replacement.
