Manchester United manager David Moyes has responded to comments made my Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho regarding Wayne Rooney’s future, the Mirror reports.
Chelsea host United on Sunday afternoon, and were openly interested in the England forward during the summer, only for the Premier League champions to flatly refuse their advances.
In what’s being analysed as a typical Mourinho mind game before Sunday’s crunch clash, the Portuguese boss claimed he reckons United will sell Rooney to a foreign club in the summer.
“Manchester United were very clear last summer, they don’t swap or sell players to their direct rivals in this country,” Mourinho said, regarding Rooney’s potential sale.
“I don’t see that changing this summer. But I think maybe they will try to sell to a non-direct rival, not in England.”
Moyes though, was adamant that there was no truth in Mourinho’s comments ahead of Sunday’s fixture, where Rooney could make a return from injury against the title hopefuls.
“I completely disagree. I can only tell you I disagree. Although he will go to Brazil [to play in the World Cup],” said the under-fire Scottish boss.
“The club will deal with that. They will do all the things they need to do, no question.”
Rooney has scored and assisted nine apiece in the league alone this term, and is likely to be the central point of England’s attack during next summer’s World Cup in Brazil, too.
