Will the Gunners sell Thomas Vermaelen to a Premier League rival…?

In what could be one of the more surprising transfers of the summer window, Manchester United manager David Moyes wants Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen to replace the outgoing Nemanja Vidic, reports the Sun.
Serbian stalwart Vidic has agreed to join Inter Milan on a free transfer when his contract expires, and with Rio Ferdinand ageing and past his best, United desperately need to strengthen the centre of their defence.
With Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker forming an excellent partnership at Arsenal, club captain Vermaelen has struggled for any game time whatsoever this season, having been given only three starts by Arsene Wenger in the Premier League.
Arsene Wenger would still demand £12m for his services though, but would likely be prepared to sell for less to a team elsewhere in Europe.
He is discontent as a result, and would seemingly jump at the chance to move for regular first-team football. It’s unlikely Manchester United will be playing Champions League football next term however, so it remains to be seen whether this will effect the 28-year-old Belgian’s chances of accepting terms at Old Trafford.
