Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has strongly hinted at a move for Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria, according to FourFourTwo.
The Red Devils boss spoke about a lack of genuine world class wingers in his squad, whilst also praising the qualities of the Argentine wide-man, who has reportedly been the subject of a club-record £55m bid from United.
Van Gaal added that United were ready to break their transfer record this summer, with Di Maria a likely target after recent reports that the club were looking to offload the likes of Nani and Wilfried Zaha.
“It is a strategy of Manchester United to do that,” he said.
“At this moment, we have five number nines and four number 10s – and we don’t have wingers to give us attacking width.
“Or, I should say, we don’t have wingers of the highest level, like Ronaldo or Di Maria or somebody like that.”
Di Maria has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain this summer, though with a move seemingly falling through, the French giants are now believed to be targeting Chelsea star Eden Hazard and Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus.
