Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal could’ve been in the home dugout at Anfield this afternoon after revealing an approach to manage Liverpool in the past, CaughtOffside reports.

The Dutchman, who took over at Old Trafford this summer, has also been linked with the Tottenham Hotspur job in the past, but insists these links are in the past and ‘not interesting’.
“Yes, I spoke to Liverpool but that is not so interesting anymore,” he said.
“Last week I was asked the same about Tottenham. I have spoken to a lot of clubs. It’s not so interesting – it’s in the past.”
Liverpool instead appointed Brendan Rodgers that summer, and will be feeling fairly pleased with that decision instead of van Gaal, given the relative success of both managers this season.
