The Red Devils finally look set to make a big money transfer.
The ongoing pursuit of Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera from Manchester United finally seems to be coming to a conclusion, as the Premier League champions activate the midfielder’s €36m release clause.

United have already had one offer for the 24-year-old turned down by Athletic, but are now prepared to stump up the fall asking price having been previously put off.
Herrera had an impressive season in La Liga in 2012/13 and amassed some outstanding statistics that can rival any of the best midfielders from the English top tier.
Ander Herrera executed more key passes last season (35) than Manchester United duo Tom Cleverley & Shinji Kagawa combined (33).

Ander Herrera completed the 12th-highest amount of passes (1496) in La Liga last term, more than Messi (1463), Rakitic (1269) & Özil (984).

Ander Herrera won more tackles last season (90) than Premier League trio Frank Lampard, Jack Wilshere and Yaya Toure combined (83).

The Red Devils are hoping that the arrival of the Spaniard can provide some creativity in midfield that has been lacking since Paul Scholes retired – exposed during the club’s weekend defeat to Liverpool.
Herrera is an accomplished box-to-box midfielder who has played 91 times for Athletic since a £6.5m transfer from Real Zaragoza in 2011.
