United believe they will still bring La Liga midfielder to Old Trafford.Manchester United are reported as being ‘confident’ of bringing La Liga midfielder Ander Herrera to Old Trafford despite seeing a bid of £29m rejected by Athletic Bilbao, according to BBC Sport.
The 24-year-old was notably close to sealing a move to the club last summer before the deal broke down in unusual circumstances late on, but he could still become the first signing for new Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal this year.
United have seemingly met the required asking price to trigger a release clause in Herrera’s contract, but the Basque club are highly reluctant to sell such an important and home-grown player.
Despite a frustrating time in the transfer market last summer, United are seemingly sure that they will land the Spaniard on this occasion as they look to strengthen their squad after a highly disappointing campaign in 2013/14.
A deal for Herrera would likely end United’s interest in other big-name midfield targets such as Toni Kroos of Bayern Munich and Juventus star Arturo Vidal.
