The 20-year-old Brazilian is regarded as a world class defensive talent and has already moved for big money in the past, though he has fallen out of favour at PSG this season.
United are known to be desperate to bring in defensive reinforcements in the summer, with Marquinhos believed to be one of their priority targets in that position.
A move for over £40m could see Marquinhos eclipse the fee that made Rio Ferdinand the club’s most expensive central defender when he joined from Leeds United back in 2002.
