Red Devils want more creativity in the centre of the park next season.
New Manchester United head coach David Moyes is interested in bringing highly-rated FC Barcelona midfield player Thiago Alcantara to Old Trafford this summer, says the Daily Mirror.
The skilful Spain international has been with the Liga giants for his whole career to date, although the 22-year-old is understood to have recently grown frustrated with his lack of playing time in the first team under new Barca boss Tito Vilanova.
Alcantara featured in 36 matches in all competitions for the Catalans in the previous campaign, scoring three times in the process, including two goals in his 27 league appearances, however, the playmaker’s path to the starting XI is currently blocked by more established Spain stars such as Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Cesc Fabregas.
And with a release clause in the player’s contract, which only runs until June 30 2015, that is valued at just £15 million, the Red Devils are said to be preparing a bid for Alcantara when the transfer window reopens at the start of next month.
