Bayer Leverkusen enter race to sign highly-rated Nicolas Gaitan.
Manchetser United summer target Nicolas Gaitan is attracting the interest of German club Bayer Leverkusen, reports the Daily Express.
Although United remain front-runners in the chase for the 25-year old’s signature, it is understood Leverkusen have a strong interest in the playmaker.
The £25m-rated star is seen as an ideal replacement for the retiring Paul Scholes, as David Moyes looks to address the need for creative midfielders in the heart of the United team.
Gaitan has scored three times and provided a further nine assists in the Portugese top flight this season, and it is this creativity that has reportedly attracted Moyes.
The incoming manager is set to evaluate his options in central midfield and it remains unclear whether Brazilian Anderson has a long-term future at Old Trafford; the former Porto man could be sold to help fund any move for Gaitan.
With Ryan Giggs 40 this year, Tom Cleverly still growing into a consistent Premier League and international performer and Shinji Kagawa likely to play in a wider role next season, a deal for Gaitan may be exactly what is required to freshen up the Champions’ midfield options next season.
