Manchester United are fuming with Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos.
According to the Daily Star, the Red Devils feel that they have been betrayed by the Spain international, as he is alleged to have misled the Premier League giants during their pursuit of his signature this summer.
Louis van Gaal felt sure that the 29-year-old would swap the Santiago Bernabeu for Old Trafford after the defender claimed that he wanted to join United – and no other club.
However, Ramos is now said to be closing in on a new contract with Real, and it seems that he has simply been playing a contract game this season to earn an improved deal.
“The club was led to believe he wanted to join them and was willing to leave Real Madrid,” said a United source.
“He was urged to make his feelings public to help speed up the transfer, but it now looks like he was playing a game all along.
“In the end it appears all he wanted was a new contract at Real and it looks like he’s going to get one as well.
“It’s not the sort of behaviour you’d expect from a player of his standing in the game. It’s like he’s betrayed United.”
