The Belgian international has lit up the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg this season, emerging as one of Europe’s best attacking midfielders since leaving Stamford Bridge for Germany last January.
Although he barely got any playing time in his first spell in English football, De Bruyne could now find himself back in the Premier League if he does make the move to United at the end of this season.
According to the Daily Express, the 23-year-old is high on Louis van Gaal’s list of priorities for next season as the Dutch tactician seeks to improve his creative midfield options, with De Bruyne fitting the bill perfectly.
£21m would arguably be a real bargain for a player who has a superb record of 14 goals and 22 assists in all competitions this season, more than big-name Premier League players like Eden Hazard and Angel Di Maria.
