Cagliari centre-half in high demand this summer.
Manchester United have joined the race to sign Cagliari and Italy defender Davide Astori according to reports in Italy.
Sky Sport Italia have suggested that the Premier League champions are the latest club to show interest in the 26-year-old centre-back, joining the likes of Milan, Napoli, Liverpool and Southampton in the race to land his signature, as reported by football-italia.net.
Astori had been linked with a switch to Milan last summer and back in January, but the move failed to come to fruition as the club looked to hold on to one of their most prized assets.
The Italian international is believed to be available for around €12m, and has previously suggested that he will sit down and talk with his current employers when he returns from holiday.
The United target had been on international duty with Italy at the Confederations Cup last month, scoring in his only appearance in the competition against Uruguay in the third-place play-off match.
While he is undoubtedly a talented centre-half, there are still doubts over his ability to perform at the top level with a club challenging for honours and playing in Europe.
It is understood that Milan remain at the front of the queue if he were to favour a move away from Sardinia this summer, but with increased interest from the Premier League it remains to be seen whether or not he will be tempted by a move abroad.
Nevertheless, while the opportunity to play in England could be difficult to turn down, United are expected to continue to closely monitor his situation over the summer.
