Porto youngster could replace Frenchman at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are lining-up a move for Porto left-back Alex Sandro as a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra, reports Italian website CalcioMercato.
Brazilian Sandro joined Porto in summer 2011 for £7.5m and his form has led to a prolonged spell in the national team set-up.
The 21-year-old can play at left-back or in midfield and has earned comparisons with compatriot Marcelo for his marauding runs from defence and fine technique.
United signed Dutch left-back Alexander Buttner this summer but boss Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to be keen to further strengthen the left side of his defence, with France international Evra now 31.
Everton’s Leighton Baines is Ferguson’s first-choice but the Toffees have slapped a £25m price-tag on the England international and Sandro could represent a cheaper and younger alternative.
United already boast a young Brazilian left-back in Fabio but the 21-year-old has struggled on loan at lowly QPR this season and is unlikely to make the grade at Old Trafford, despite the successs of his twin brother, Rafael.
