Manchester United transfer news
The England international is for some reason one of Arsene Wenger’s top targets to improve his defence, though why he is aiming so low is surely beyond anyone.
Equally bizarre, however, is the news that United will turn that money away for such an over-rated squad player. They did well to cash in on Danny Welbeck last summer, with the Arsenal new-boy doing precious little in his first season with the club, despite a high-profile winning strike against his old club in their recent FA Cup clash.
Smalling is another player who just isn’t top four material, and United need to raise funds to bring in some new defenders of their own. Surely no one will pay more than £12m for a player of his quality, so why not let Arsenal have him? Then the error-prone 25-year-old will be the Gunners’ problem, not theirs.
