Vermaelen is being targeted by United.
Arsenal could lose another one of their players in Thomas Vermaelen to a rival club Manchester United, reports the Daily Star.
English giants United are believed to be interested in signing the Belgian international, who has not been a regular for the Gunners over the last 18 months.
The 28-year-old is the captain of the North London outfit, but he is now only a backup defender to the likes of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
In a shocking transfer rumour, the Red Devils have emerged as favourites to sign the former Ajax man ahead of more long term suitors in Fiorentina and Juventus.
Even Napoli had earlier expressed interest in signing Vermaelen, but United’s interest in the tough tackler could make for sleepless nights for several Arsenal fans, who saw their last skipper Robin Van Persie move to Old Trafford a couple of seasons ago and helped the Red Devils win their 20th Premier League title.
