Manchester United are still in with a chance of signing Juventus star Stephan Lichtsteiner despite claims that the defender is on the verge of penning a new contract, according to the Daily Express.

The Swiss full-back has the experience that manager Louis van Gaal is looking for, as the Dutchman looks to reinforce his back line in the January transfer window, and put life into a late Premier League title bid.
Recent claims suggested that Lichtsteiner was close to agreeing a new deal with the Serie A champions, but today it has been suggested that negotiations are far from finished.
The 30-year-old is still seeking assurances over a key role in the starting XI, and could yet quit Turin this winter, if United meet the Champions League side’s asking price, believed to be around £20m – an extravagant price for a player of his age.
