Old Trafford chief not totally happy with di Maria’s display.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has criticised facets of record signing Angel di Maria’s performance in his side’s 4-0 thrashing of Queens Park Rangers at the weekend, report the Daily Star, despite the Argentine walking away with the man of the match award.
Van Gaal was unhappy with the regularity with which di Maria gave the ball away, something that a problem for him at the World Cup, particularly against Switzerland, and has demanded improvements from his star man, despite a fine performance that saw a goal and an assist from di Maria, albeit both of them somewhat fortunate.
Whilst most fans will have been delighted with the display from their record buy, the boss is clearly a much harder man to satisfy:
“He had a lot of unnecessary losses so we can do better, even Angel Di Maria.”
“You can say it is impossible to do better when you prepare three goals and make one yourself.”
“But I am a trainer and a coach and reading the game and there are two or three things we need to improve on as a team.”
It was just di Maria’s second appearance in a United shirt after his record breaking move to Old Trafford from Real Madrid, following a less explosive display in the club’s 0-0 draw at Burnley.
