Carvalho is likely to be much more open to the Gunners than United.
Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho has been a long-term target for Sporting Lisbon but it has now emerged the starlet is an Arsenal fan, according to a friend of the 21-year-old’s.
The Red Devils have been keeping tabs on the Portugal international for many weeks and have even sent scouts Robbie Cooke and Jim Lawlor to watch the youngster.

Whilst they have been impressed and David Moyes is understood to be a fan, the decision is yet to be made on whether the Premier League champions want to meet the player’s £37m buyout fee.
Yet a friend of Carvalho’s – Daniel David – has said that the Portuguese ace is a Gunners fan and therefore would presumably prefer a switch to north London rather than Old Trafford.
“He is fanatical for Arsenal and his idol has always been Thierry Henry. He likes to play in the same position as Vieira, but his idol was Henry,” David told Mais Futebol.
Angolan born Carvalho is a product of the Sporting youth academy and broke into the first team in 2013 after two successful loan spells away from the Portuguese capital.
The youngster has been an established member of the starting XI this term and has made 29 appearances in all competitions to date – as well as earning two caps for the national team.
Carvalho generally operates in defensive midfield although can also play further up the pitch or even as a centre-back.
