Red Devils are hoping to confirm their second new arrival of the close season shortly.
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing a £17 million move for highly-rated Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The experienced Argentina international has been with the Lisbon giants for the past two seasons now, having originally arrived in the Portuguese capital from Liga outfit Real Madrid for just 5.5 million euros on a five-year deal in July 2011.
And in the intervening two-year period the 26-year-old has proved himself to be one of the most accomplished central defenders on the Continent, featuring in 79 matches in all competitions for his club, scoring four goals in the process, including three strikes in his 51 league contests to date.
However, with a contract at the Estadio da Luz that runs until June 30 2015, new Red Devils head coach David Moyes knows that the Argentinian will not come cheap when the summer transfer window opens again on July 1, with Benfica believed to be demanding a fee of £17m for the centre back.
