Real Madrid assistant coach, and former Ballon D’or winner Zinedine Zidane has criticised ex-Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson for letting prodigal French midfielder Paul Pogba leave the club, reports the Mirror.
Pogba now stars for Juventus in Serie A, and was recently voted Europe’s most exciting young talent.
In 2011 though, United let Pogba leave the club on a free, and Juventus were happy to snap him up and let him realise his outstanding potential.
Mirroring the view of many United fans, Zidane reckons the Red Devils made a big error letting the 20-year-old leave…
“But I do think it was a mistake letting Paul Pogba leave,” Zidane said.
“He will go on to be one of the best central midfield players in Europe and he was the natural successor to Paul Scholes, someone they could have built the team around.”
Zidane’s comments indicate that Real Madrid may eventually try and sign the midfielder, however.
“He is with Juventus and doing very well but, as always, Real Madrid will be looking to add the best players in the world.”
This season, Pogba has contributed five goals and three assists for the table topping Italian side.
