The Spanish international is believed to be a top target for the European champions, who want him as their long-term replacement for the ageing Iker Casillas.
De Gea’s current contract at Old Trafford runs until 2016, and he is paid around £70,000 per week – significantly less than some of his team-mates.
Having been one of United’s best players this season, the club now hope a contract worth double that amount will see the 24-year-old remain in Manchester.
