The Red Devils are desperate to keep hold of the 24-year-old, who has arguably been their star performer throughout this season and a player they simply cannot afford to lose.
Still, Real are known to be admirers of his and could be preparing a summer move as his current contract nears expiry, so it may take a new deal with huge wages to ensure he remains at Old Trafford.
United hope £200,000 per week will do the trick, but it remains to be seen if the Spanish international will commit his future to the club or if he has already had his head turned by the possibility of a move to the Bernabeu.
De Gea started his career in La Liga with Atletico Madrid and may well be tempted to return to his home country.
